Newly arrived in Shanghai, the young Hui Man-Keung intervenes in a crisis with the help of Ding Lik, to rescue Fung Ching Ching, daughter of an underworld boss in Shanghai. Both men become fast friends quickly. Keung and Lik are drawn into the service of Boss Fung. The two of them soon become valuable assets to the Fung organization and rise quickly in both status and Fung's esteem.

Keung, Lik and Ching gets entangled in a triangular relationship. But when Keung discovers Boss Fung is smuggling arms with the Japanese, he thwarts the deal between them. When Boss Fung finds out that Keung is responsible, he sends his men to assassinate Keung, forcing him to flee from Shanghai. This sets a sequence of events in motion which eventually leads to tragedy ...
